As a result of my feng shui analysis of the house, I decided to paint the front door red, and chose a brick red to go along with the accent bricks around the door. With the painting momentum underway, Boyd painted the outside studio both in and out, so now it looks very spiffy. The next step is to get the paver stones laid for the driveway, and we can get back to normal--now a higher normal... Yay!

Within the next week or so, I'll be making an announcement about a new product developed by Candice Covington and me--it's an aromatherapy formula in a spray mist. We've very excited about it. Candice is really going all out on it. She and her husband are making a trip to India to acquire some rare and exotic oils for a whole new line of formulas she is developing, so stay tuned for the latest on that coming up soon.

Our feng shui advisor, Gwynne Warner, based locally here in Portland, is featured this week with a very useful article about how to make the entrance to your home as attractive as possible to good fortune--always a hot topic! 4 Simple Steps to Weight Loss for Women (and men) Over 40
Anyone over the age of 40 knows how difficult it can be to take off those pesky extra pounds that seem to magically appear, even though you've maintained the same diet you used in your 30s. Hormonal changes for both women and men can have a profound effect on how the body processes dietary fats and proteins. As the body matures, changes in diet are inevitable to keep from adding fat. Dr. Susan Lark suggests three easy changes you can make that will make a difference...

1) FLUSH FALSE FAT BY BANISHING WHEAT: One of the most common food allergies and the one most likely to cause false fat in many women is wheat. Wheat contains a protein called gluten, which is difficult for the body to break down and digest, says Dr. Lark. Wheat allergies can trigger fatigue, depression, bloating and intestinal gas. Try substituting breads made with rice, millets, soy, or oats.
2) CONTROL YOUR APPETITE WITH FLAXSEED: There's a safe and very healthy way to curb insatiable cravings, says Dr. Lark, a long time advocated of the health benefits of flaxseed. She explains that it's the ideal food for women's weight loss because it contains healthy, appetite suppressing fat along with the bulk of fiber to help you feel full longer. Flaxseed is chock full of omega-3 fatty acids (the heart healthy kind) and fiber. Start slowly, beginning with one tablespoon daily and work up to a tolerable amount for your body. Two to four tablespoons sprinkled daily over cereal, yogurt, pasta, salads, or shakes, is your goal.
3) REV UP YOUR METABOLISM: The secret ingredient in this step is green tea. This powerful disease fighter is rich in antioxidants and can also help you peel off unwanted pounds. "Green tea contains compounds called catechins," says Dr. Lark. "These catechins protect special brain chemicals related to metabolism. The higher the levels of these brain chemicals--which include dopamine, norepinephrine and epinephrine--the more efficiently you will burn calories." Drink at least three 8-ounce cups of green tea daily to reap the greatest benefits, says Dr. Lark.
4) SUPPLEMENT WITH PROBIOTICS: Along with hormonal changes come changes in intestinal flora, and this can lead to digestive toxicity and enzyme depletion. Take a high potency probiotic formula and/or add yogurt, sauerkraut, apple cider vinegar, kombucha, or other fermented foods to your diet.
