New Experiment: Atoms Behave Like Photons

particle wave If you don't follow quantum physics breakthroughs we don't blame you. The news usually reads like a footnote from a calculus textbook. It takes real imagination to start to get the significance of some of these experiments. Since the 70s, after John Wheeler's proposal of a way to physical prove that quantum particles (in this case a single photon of light), scientists have been banging their collective heads against lab walls worldwide. In 2007, though, a group of French physicists did finally achieve the physical proof that a photon exists as BOTH a particle and a wave until it is measured. It then "decides" to become one or the other. This proves that human consciousness drives the quantum state of photons.

Now, Dr. Andrew Truscott of the Australian National University has reported the same thing in the magazine Nature Physics, but this time using a helium atom, rather than a photon. "A photon is in a sense quite simple. An atom has significant mass and couples to magnetic and electric fields, so it is much more in tune with its environment. It is more of a classical particle in a sense, so this was a test of whether a more classical particle would behave in the same way (that photons do)."

As it turns out, they do! This means that human consciousness directly affects the state of atoms. We can change how an atom behaves with our thoughts, and this is now scientifically verifiable. Think about it.

QUANTUM HEALTH TIP: Explore the depth of your consciousness, find out what unconscious conditions you are creating that the atomic universe is reacting to in your life. Use Trinity Elixir's Deep Insight formula.

Breath Like Yogi, Sleep Like a Baby

yoga This method was developed by a wellness practitioner, Harvard-educated Dr. Andrew Weil, who studies meditation, breathing, and how it can be used to counteract stress. It's called 4-7-8 breathing, and is easy to do. You breathe in through your nose for four seconds, hold it for seven seconds, and exhale through your mouth for eight seconds. Dr. Weil explains that it slows down the heart rate and releases chemicals in our brains that soothe the nervous system. Using this technique, most people are out before reaching the fourth repetition--usually less than two minutes.

The 4-7-8 technique is good for more than just falling asleep. When stressed, the endocrine system releases adrenaline through the adrenal glands. This elevates heart rate and tenses up muscles and nervous system. Often times, breathing also becomes rapid and shallow, which compounds the stress. By using this breathing method, it counteracts the natural effects of adrenaline, and the body is forced to slow down the heart rate. It simply doesn't have a choice! Coming out of a stress response, especially if it is long-term, can be uncomfortable, but as you continue the method, heart rate will slow and thinking clears. Very relaxing.

QUANTUM HEALTH TIP: Use this breathing technique with our E-1 Formula balances and harmonizes the parasympathetic nervous system, calming brain responses and generally de-stressing, and sleep like a baby.

Seven Ways to De-Stress

chew gum There is no question that stress is the leading cause of disease in our modern world. So, it is of prime importance to effectively address and resolve it when we notice it in our lives. Here are 7 scientifically proven methods to say goodbye to stress...

> Chew a stick of gum: Researchers from Australia and England found that in moments of stress and anxiety, gum chewers felt less anxious and had 18 per cent less of the stress hormone cortisol in their saliva.
> Drink black tea: The study of black tea —instead of green or herbal varieties — found it helps cut levels of the stress hormone cortisol circulating in the blood stream. People who drank four servings of black tea a day for six weeks were able to de-stress faster and had lower levels of cortisol after a stressful event, according to a study from University College London.
> Massage yourself: The International Journal of Neuroscience reported that a 15-minute self massage twice weekly can lower stress by soothing the sympathetic nervous system. It is an effective alternative, as compared to popping beta blockers and anti-anxiety meds. "Simply rolling a tennis ball over tense muscles like the spine, thighs and foot with the palm of your hand can trigger a calming response," says Dr Tiffany Field, director of Touch Research Institute at the University of Miami, School of Medicine.
> Write it out: A 2010 study in Anxiety, Stress & Coping found that writing about a stressful event for just 20 minutes on two different days lowered levels of perceived stress. Putting feelings on paper appears to organise thoughts and helps process unpleasant experiences and release negative emotions.
> The healing power of music: "The body's internal rhythms entrain to the external rhythms of music, like when you go to the sea, and you start breathing slower and your heart rate slows down and starts moving closer to the rhythm and pace of the ocean. It's the same with music," says Dr Frank Lipman, founder and director of Eleven-Eleven Wellness Centre. A study in the Journal of Advanced Nursing found that patients who listened to songs of their choice were less anxious and stressed. Boost your mood with clocking in at least 15 minutes of tune time daily.
> Break free of the machine: Before technology and smartphones, when you left your home or place of work, you most likely turned off the thoughts and emails related to it, too. Research shows we need mental breaks to refresh our minds and shut off the continuous stressors of work or classes. In a study by University of California, Irvine, and US Army researchers, heart rate monitors showed that checking e-mails and attending work calls put subjects on constant high alert with heart rates that indicated stress. "We found that shutting off e-mail eases anxiety," says study co-author Dr Gloria Mark. Commit to no e-mail or social media activity for 45 minutes a day to begin weaning yourself off.
> Clean the house: Housework's repetitive nature can help release tension and calm anxious nerves. "We get lost in the rhythm of folding clothes, mopping or vacuuming, which can disrupt stressful thought patterns and trigger the body's relaxation response," says Dr Herbert Benson, director emeritus of the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital. Studies have found that cleaning carries emotional benefits — catharsis, clarity, control and change.

QUANTUM HEALTH TIP: Our E-1 Formula balances and harmonizes the parasympathetic nervous system, calming brain responses and generally de-stressing. The Trouble With Answers

progress I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the devotion to answers has prevented discovery, greatly hindered innovation, and basically kept the human race planetbound when for the last 300 years we could have been exploring the stars...

I know. Kind of a sweeping statement. Let me explain this point of view.

We've all been educated and socialized in the belief that to understand something, you "search for the answer". You look it up in the dictionary, you research the encyclopedia, you explore the Interwebs until you find the answer to your question, which usually turns out to be a conclusion or a judgment about a particular unwanted condition or personal conundrum.

You have to agree with the answer before you can "accept" it as "true". My question is, how can you agree with something you previously declared you needed an answer for? What are you agreeing with? Something you already knew, obviously.

That's the whole point. It's not about knowledge. It's about awareness. What causes awareness? A question. Awareness then leads to choice, and making a choice creates more awareness. When you are attempting to get an answer to a question, aren't you really asking for more awareness in a particular area?

knowledge There's a huge difference between awareness and an answer. With an answer, inquiry stops. The question has been answered, it's all settled, no need to look further. This effectively stops awareness. With awareness, you are always aware that there is more, that there is a greater, larger picture to gain awareness of. Awareness stops or freezes with an answer.

Consider how much further along science would be today if scientists would have made questions more important than answers? Research stops once an answer is obtained. And when answers become codified as "laws" and "theories" it effectively squelches further questioning.

We are in the habit of "coming to conclusions", as if that is the end all and be all of our inquiries. As if that's a good thing. Well, it's not wrong, it's just limited. What if you never came to any conclusions about anything? What if you stopped searching for answers, and just kept asking questions? What would your daily life be like?

For one thing, you would stop judging, because judgments and awarenesses cancel each other out. You can't get a new awareness with a judgment held in place. Conclusions are really just judgments with a justifying story. So you wouldn't have a story that leads to any sort of "conclusion"--you may have a story that demonstrates how you got to more awareness, but you wouldn't have a story that concluded: "therefore, I'm not suited for this job", or "that's why I don't like dogs". It would all just be an interesting point of view that could change at any moment with a new awareness.

changing This "changeableness" is actually quite threatening to many people because you then become "unpredictable" or "undependable". We have set up a social stigma against changing. This is part of being in judgment and coming to conclusions about others, in an attempt at predicting behavior, which is really just a control story. You would need to give all that up.

What if you woke up in the morning with the question, "What wonderful and amazing things could happen today?" or "What are the things I can do to make my day amazing?" And as your day progresses, you just keep asking these questions, and once something does happen that's amazing, you don't conclude that it was because you asked for it. You instead say, "How does it get any better than that?" or "What else is possible?" And a new awareness comes to you.

If we all could live in the question, it seems to me it would be only a short time before we have solved the world's problems and are vacationing across the Milky Way...
