As we follow up on our New Year's resolutions in February, it is impossible to to avoid discovering how we are connected to our dark sides, and the dark side of our society. The key is responsibility. Taking actions in our lives to improve the quality of our lives and the lives of our children, loved ones, and fellow humans is all part of this responsibility.

In May, I will be speaking at the Alternatives for Special Kids Conference in Irvine, California. In preparation for my presentation I scanned over the various issues I am aware of regarding health care for children, and one issue has come to the forefront: aspartame poisioning. This sugar substitute is widespread in most diet colas, and is a main beverage for children of all ages. The danger here is that kids are at least four times more susceptible to aspartame toxicity because of the developing central nervous system. Aspartame is a multi-billion dollar a year industry in more than 7,000 food products, chewing gums, children's antibiotics and meds, children's vitamins and pain medications for kids.
