Nikoluna inquires::

Dear Miss Candice,

I have a very stressful situation coming up and I would like advice. I have a pretty big job which has much responsibility. The majority of the time, I love my job very much and appreciate and thrive on all the challenges that my career presents. Occasionally, there are things that come up that do cause me stress, anxiety, and loss of sleep. Right now, I am faced with a legal tangle and mess. It is a very frustrating situation that has led to a trial--so an ongoing legal issue. Long story short, this is something that is bigger than me, and I cannot control the outcome. I can only do the best that I can and surrender to what will be. This is a challenge that I am finding very difficult in light of all the anger, anxiety, and frustrations that I have surrounding the situation. It is hard for me to give up control, and difficult for me to give up my "hard feelings."

I also have to testify in court, which I am dreading, and want to be as relaxed and calm as I can, so I can relay the truth. Any special advice, elixirs, or recipes that you can offer to help shepherd me through this challenge would be much appreciated.

"Do everything with a mind that lets go. Don't accept praise or gain or anything else. If you let go a little you will have a little peace; if you let go a lot you will have a lot of peace; if you let go completely you will have complete peace." --Ajahn Chah

Dear Nikoluna,

Surrender I am very excited for you because I saw in your letter that you intuitively know that surrender is the right course of action. However, it is a difficult thing to get your body, emotions, and mind to follow such good self-advice! Like in Alice in Wonderland when Alice laments about giving herself very good advice but that she very seldom ever follows it!

Once you learn the life lesson of surrender, a huge gift opens up for you, because after that, everything else falls into place--stress, anxiety, loss of sleep, frustration, anger, not being able to control outcomes and life situations that are bigger than self, all melt into flow once an individual truly surrenders.

This led me to meditate on the actual word "surrender," and why when we know it will give us complete peace and allow us to open up to eternal flow, why the sticking point? You are not alone in this. There is a deep need for most to be in control, so I decided to do a bit of detective work and went to the Princeton online WordNet (see http://wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn) for a definition of surrender, and this is what I found:

  • resignation, surrender (acceptance of despair)
  • giving up, yielding, surrender (a verbal act of admitting defeat)
  • surrender (the delivery of a principal into lawful custody)
  • capitulation, fall, surrender (the act of surrendering (usually under agreed conditions)) "they were protected until the capitulation of the fort"
  • surrender, give up (give up or agree to forgo to the power or possession of another) "The last Taleban fighters finally surrendered"
  • surrender, cede, deliver, give up (relinquish possession or control over) "The squatters had to surrender the building after the police moved in"
Wow! Phrases such as "acceptance of despair," and "admitting defeat" don't sound like acts that would bring peace, joy, or a good night's sleep. In the context of this definition, even giving up possession and relinquishing control sound defeatist rather than empowering.

Thusly, I began to wonder if the non-transcendent use of the word so marked by defeat and handing the reigns of responsibility over to another has permeated our collective minds and if that is a part of the difficulty for most in "letting go" and truly being able to surrender. Almost immediately one of my favorite authors popped into mind. Margot Anand, an expert on ecstasy, inner-contentment and joy says:

"There is a lot of confusion about what surrender means. People are suspicious of this term, which they equate with loss of free will and personal power. In fact, they are confusing surrender with submission, which is a passive attitude that implies giving up responsibility for one's behavior--wanting someone else to do things for you. The word surrender has significant roots, in which render has the meaning 'to melt,' and sur means 'super' or 'highest.' In other words, the true meaning of surrender is to melt into that which is higher than yourself."
Once you recognize this important distinction, and focus on "melting into that which is higher than yourself," you open yourself up to your own highest nature where you will find all of the best self-advice possible and know correct action, allowing yourself to be centered in a grounded, peaceful way. Further, you are also open to the support of energy larger than yourself, to help ease your journey. Almost all cultures believe in an energy that is enriched with divine intelligence to help us along our way.

The blend I have created is to help you ask for assistance from your highest self, the energy pattern of the Goddess Hestia, and several different flower and nature intelligences. Please feel free to invite in any other energy you work with! As you use it, feel the stress, anxiety, loss of sleep, frustration, and anger melt away, allowing you to open into a balanced, centered women who will do beautifully on the stand, expressing truth in a most eloquent way, and be able to live in the joy of the moment of a job you enjoy!

Before we get into the recipe, let me explain the benefits of each ingredient. (Please note the sensitivities listed below.)

Benefits

Hestia Hestia (vibrational essence by Fox Mountain): Hestia is a virgin goddess, meaning "unto herself," and she has an inner presence. She is not attached to people, outcomes, or power. She lives in a centered state of grace; having seen much in life, she holds a deep wisdom within. She creates beauty and welcomes all around her. Use this essence when you want stillness, patience, total surrender to your highest self and non-attachment to situations, while living calmly within your truth. This essence will allow you to surrender to the situation, as you will have your own internal knowing and essence to anchor to.

Cherry Plum (vibrational essence by Flower Essences of Marin): This vibrational essence addresses fears of loss of control, trust and faith.

Blue-Eyed Grass (vibrational essence by Flowers of the Soul): Addresses the subtle-body through the fire/water element, bringing forth the deepest level of who you are into the public eye; keeping an unshakable connection with self in an environment of negativity. Use for speaking and enacting your inner-truth. This is also helpful for public speaking and leadership roles without ego. This essence has a wonderful imagery to use to help access its vibration at the deepest level: a spiral widening upward from the inner pool of knowing to the heart and then spiraling, widening outward from the heart into the world.

Red Rugosa Rose (vibrational essence by Green Hope Farm Flower Essences): This flower helps to balance and stabilize energies during times of turbulence.

Blue (vibrational essence by Greenman Light Essences): This essence opens up communication; it holds the vibration of being cooling to hot, turbulent emotions, quieting the self, creating detachment, creative expression, ordinary and subtle communication, and brings peace.

Brown Boronia (vibrational essence by Living Essences of Australia): The mantra of this plant is "my solution will come." This plant is for those who worry and for those who go over problems repeatedly, to the point of interrupting sleep and emotional disturbance during the day.

Orange Tree (vibrational essence, any brand will work): Use for joy, cultivating an inner-smile, resolution of conflict, lightness, seeing the way to direct self action out of melancholy.

Sensitivities

Did you know that flower essences have no fragrance? Instead, they work on a vibrational level, transmitting patterns based on the plant's devic archetype, or the vibration of a holy place, an archetypal energy like of Hestia or a thing's archetype, like the color blue. These essences act like a template or blueprint to help us stretch our existing vibrational pattern to be able to encompass and expand into something completely new to us, or reinforce and stabilize our subtle-bodies when they feeling taxed with a pattern we are already familiar with.

This also means there are no contraindications outside of alcohol sensitivities, as vibrational essences consist only of water, brandy, and the angelic over-lighting presence of the plant (that which makes the plant divine versus its mundane or earthly gift), or the vibrational pattern that is the underpinning of the item, place, or idea.

doorknob Assembly Instructions

"Read the directions and directly you will be directed in the right direction." --The Doorknob, Alice in Wonderland

  1. Add the vibrational essences listed above to a clean 1 oz blue glass bottle with pipette.
  2. Fll the remainder of the bottle with a good quality brandy.
  3. Cap with the pipette, and roll back and forth in your palms calling on each essence by name asking for assistance in allowing you to let go and surrender to perfection of circumstance and to be at peace.

Enlivening Ritual

"The function of ritual, as I understand it, is to give form to the human life, not in the way of a mere surface arrangement, but in depth." --Joseph Campbell, Myths to Live By

This is what I bless you with dear Nikoluna: that this blend does not affect you in a mere surface arrangement, but to the very core of your being, to allow you to be centered in peace and joy in the midst of the turbulent aspects of life. The ritual for you is very simple: hold the formula in your hands and mentally go over all of the things you would like to surrender at this time, and ask for your self to be buoyed up by eternal flow and use the visualization from the Blue-Eyed Grass: a spiral widening upward from the inner pool of knowing to the heart and then spiraling, widening outward from your heart into the world, then take 3 drops under your tongue to seal the intent. You may take 3 drops under your tongue as often as needed, you may also add 3-7 drops to a liter of water and sip on it all day, or add 7-12 drops in your bath to infuse your body with the vibration of your blend.

Blessings to you on this journey into larger cycles of expansion and knowing thyself!

Bon Appetite!

Miss Candice
